Nancy Wainer, CPM (Certified Professional Midwife) is the mother of three. She is a homebirth midwife, a certified labor assistant, and a certified childbirth educator. She is also certified in HypnoBirthing.
Nancy co-founded C/SEC, the first cesarean awareness organization in the world, and she coined the term Vaginal Birth After Cesarean ("VBAC", pronounced vee-back) which is now used internationally.
She is the author of the critically acclaimed "bible of cesarean prevention" Silent Knife: Cesarean Prevention and VBAC, which won an American Library Award for the best book in the field of Health and Medicine. She is the author of Open Season: A Survival Guide for Natural Childbirth, and is currently writing Birthquake! A Childbirth Book for Strong Women and Women Who Want to Be Strong.
Nancy leads childbirth seminars all over the world, is a consultant to numerous childbirth organizations, and is a nationally known and sought-after childbirth speaker. She is a graduate of Boston University and the Massachusetts Basic Course in Midwifery. She completed a two-year midwifery apprenticeship and then trained at the Birth Center in Dearborn, Michigan, at Casa de Nacimiento in El Paso, Texas, and with the International School of Midwifery in Kingston, Jamaica. She was a La Leche Leader and she currently leads a variety of empowering workshops including Creating a Positive Birth, Grieving and Healing After a Disappointing or Traumatic Birth Experience, and Teaching More Effective Childbirth Classes. She was a preceptor for the Hands of Light Midwifery School.
